Lyrics

FIDDLERS THREE

The Pope’s on the balcony selling God
And God’s on the precipice praying hard
His hoarse voice echoes through the empty yard
As he calls for his Fiddlers Three

The sheriff has told us all to gather round
The bad guys are saddling up to raid our town
But nary an ally is there to be found
As he calls for his Fiddlers Three

Nina and Pinta and Santa Maria
When you gonna show me a good time?
Follow the seagulls and glide over here
What I gotta do to make you mine?
All mine … All mine

The princess is shouting from her ivory tower
The dragon’s upon us in this witching hour
But her starving people have no will nor power
As she calls for her Fiddlers Three

The boy king is slouching on his royal bed
A warm breeze whistles through his empty head
He dreams of a desert where the streets run red
And he calls for his Fiddlers Three

Nina and Pinta and Santa Maria
When you gonna show me a good time?
Follow the seagulls and slide over here
Pull right up a chair, I make you mine
All mine … All mine

The Pope’s on the balcony playing God
And God’s on the precipice praying real hard
His hoarse voice echoes through the empty yard
As he calls for his Fiddlers Three

WRITING:
This was written in one day and it was the day of the Boston Marathon Bombing in 2013. I had no idea at the time that the bombing was so devastating. I thought it was just something that happened off to the side and nobody had gotten hurt.

This song started as kind of a joke but I thought the words to the verses were good. I faked the bridge musically on the fly, not knowing where it was going. I recorded the demo with just an acoustic 12-string. I had the words to the verses but nothing for the bridge, not even a melody. When it came time to do the vocals, I winged it on the bridge vocally, as well. I let it sit for a while and didn't think about it. One day, an old friend who's always been a big supporter of mine was here and I had run out of new things to play for him and then I remembered this song. He thought it was great really so I started considering it a bit more seriously.
